Group Tours

Open Tuesday - Friday 10 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays, Mondays, and state holidays. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Located at the corner of Bank Street and South Governors Ave., Downtown Dover.

Two adjacent Delaware State Museums known as the Meeting House Galleries occupy a 1790 Presbyterian Church and the 1880 Sunday School building in historic downtown Dover, three blocks from The Green. The museums are located on Meeting House Square, part of the original plan of Dover laid out by William Penn in 1717.

The Delaware Museum of Small Town Life (Meeting House Gallery II) in the Sunday School building contains an exhibit relating to “Main Street Delaware” and the economics, history, and culture of Delaware communities in the early 1900’s. The museum contains a general store, pharmacy, carpenter’s shop, and working print shop. Delaware State Museums staff offer guided tours and demonstrations of the printing press. One highlight of the museum is the beautiful stained glass windows.

Next door, the Delaware Archaeology Museum (also known as Meeting House Gallery I) located in the church features local archaeological discoveries, showcasing artifacts, paintings, and photographs covering prehistoric and historic time periods. In the same block, the Johnson Victrola Museum displays early “Talking Machines,” and Victor company icon “Nipper” the dog.

Tour Tips: Allow 30 minutes for guided tour. One motorcoach maximum per tour. Motorcoach parking available. Reservations required a minimum of two weeks in advance.
