Who Adopt Delaware as their Native Home For a Weekend

You are invited to join us for a beautiful spring weekend, April 30-May 2, 2010, for the 77th Annual Dover Days Festival.  Dover Days is one of Delaware's longest running events that celebrates First State History.  A packed weekend offers you a glimpse of Delaware’s history, loads of fun and lots of flair with a large community parade, maypole dancing, walking tours, entertainment, pet parade, Native American dancing, Civil War encampment, arts & crafts vendors, sumptuous food court, and so much more!  This is a fabulous event for people of all ages!

What a value!  Admission and parking are free, as are all of our museums and public buildings that are open for tours on Saturday.  Start your weekend Friday, April 30th in the evening at the “Tourism Gives Back” concert on Legislative Mall.  Bring a lawn chair, buy a fresh-grilled BBQ dinner, sit back and listen to some great musical entertainment as the kids’ squeal with delight on an number of carnival rides.

Saturday morning’s “All-You-Can-Eat” breakfast at the Wesley Church is a great way to start a fun-filled day.  Follow that by joining the crowds as they line Dover's historic State Street and The Green for a fantastic community parade.  Who knows whom you’ll see in Delaware’s Capital parade!

Then, witness first-hand a time-honored tradition as children dressed in colonial finery dance and whirl, weaving their colorful ribbons around Maypoles.   Buy an authentic handmade quilt at the Amish Quilt auction on Legislative Mall hoisted from a beautiful elm tree.  Fill your afternoon shopping at the Crafts Faire, or enjoy TD Bank’s costumed pet parade, as pets of all sizes and shapes strut their stuff on festival grounds.  Visit encampments through the ages starting with renaissance, Native American, Civil War and ending with WWII. Buy lunch at the food court from one of the many scrumptious vendors.  Children’s activities abound -- carnival rides, rock-climbing wall, moon bounce, mural painting, games, scavenger hunt, wood building pile, karate demonstrations and more will keep the kiddies busy.  Rest your feet with free shuttle service, while you visit some of the local museums and shop in beautiful downtown Dover.

The grand finale occurs on Sunday, May 2nd  with Historic Homes of Camden House Tours.  Step into some of Camden’s earliest homes and buildings as old as the early 1700s and hear tales of former owners, town history, slavery and freedom.

So pack your bags and visit beautiful Dover, Delaware – our hotels welcome you with special prices and packaging for your Dover Days get-away weekend.
